Rams' Nacua Enters Rehab Amid Assault Claims
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has checked into a rehabilitation center following accusations of assault and battery, as well as claims of an antisemitic remark. The allegations stem from an incident on New Year's Eve involving a woman named Madison Atiabi, who says Nacua bit her shoulder and her friend's thumb while in a van. Nacua's attorney described the bites as horseplay and denied any antisemitic statements.
Atiabi and her attorney allege Nacua made an antisemitic exclamation during an encounter in Century City that caused emotional distress. The attorney, Levi McCathern, called the lawsuit a shakedown attempt, noting the bite left only a temporary mark. McCathern confirmed Nacua entered rehab before the allegations surfaced and plans to remain there longer to improve his behavior, citing media coverage as a contributing factor.
Nacua previously apologized for an action perceived as antisemitic during a YouTube stream last year. On streamer Adin Ross's channel, Nacua performed a hand-rubbing gesture as part of a touchdown celebration demonstration, which some viewed as perpetuating a harmful stereotype.
Last season, Nacua set career highs with 129 receptions, 1,715 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns for the Rams. Neither Nacua's attorney nor the team responded immediately to requests for comment.
