Judge's Calf Status Still Unresolved Ahead Of ALDS Opener
The Yankees advanced to the American League Division Series by sweeping the Red Sox in two games, but they did it without Aaron Judge. The slugger's availability for the ALDS opener against the Tampa Bay Rays remains unsettled with the roster deadline approaching.
Judge has been sidelined since Sept. 19 with a calf strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list. He has not appeared in a game this postseason. New York must submit its 26-man roster by Saturday morning ahead of Game 1, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in St. Petersburg, Florida. germany kreisliga a women
Manager Aaron Boone said medical staff will have significant input on any decision regarding Judge's status. "The trainers will obviously play a big part in this. As the day unfolds, we'll see where we're at and what it potentially looks like for the series," Boone said. Judge has taken live batting practice, but Boone indicated the team is still evaluating whether he can return to the field at all during this series rather than settling on a specific timetable. "It's just as far as him and the field, potentially," Boone said. "But we're looking at the days and so it's more, 'Is he going to be available at some point in this series, potentially, as a player?' That's what we're kind of weighing and then seeing where he's at now these last few days having taken live [batting practice]."
If activated, Judge would make his first postseason roster appearance of the run. The Yankees open their best-of-five divisional series against the Rays tomorrow at 6:30 p.m., with his status expected to be finalized before the roster submission deadline.
