Kily González Tapped To Take Over Inter Miami Bench
Inter Miami CF announced Thursday that Cristian Alberto "Kily" González will become the club's new head coach, replacing Guillermo Hoyos. The club said González will officially take charge once he receives the necessary work permits, with Hoyos remaining in interim control until the new staff arrives.
González arrives with managerial experience at three Argentine clubs - Rosario Central, Unión de Santa Fe and Platense. As a player, he broke into professional soccer with Rosario Central in 1993 before moving to Europe, where he played for Valencia, Real Zaragoza and Inter Milan. The coaching change arrives with Inter Miami sitting second in the Eastern Conference with 39 points from 21 games, but mired in a five-match winless run that includes four losses and a draw across MLS regular-season and Leagues Cup competition. Hoyos had stepped in as interim manager in April after moving over from his post as sporting director to replace Javier Mascherano, and was later named permanent coach following the World Cup. According to the club, his tenure began strongly, with the team taking 19 of a possible 24 points and scoring 26 goals across his first eight matches before the recent skid.
Inter Miami is scheduled to host CF Montreal Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, a match Hoyos is expected to oversee while González awaits clearance to formally assume his new role.
