Tiger Woods ends silence with Memorial Day tribute to veterans and father
Tiger Woods posted his first public statement since March 31 on X, marking Memorial Day with a message honoring U.S. military personnel who died in service. The statement also specifically recognized his father, Earl Woods, a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran of two tours in Vietnam.
Woods wrote that his father completed 20 years of service and described the broader group of service members as the reason the United States exists. Earl Woods died in May 2006 at age 74.
Woods had not issued any public comments since announcing on March 31 that he would step away for treatment after his March 27 arrest on DUI-related charges in Florida. The 15-time major champion has not competed since the 2024 Open Championship.
The timing of the message follows a brief return to Florida earlier in May and a subsequent flight back to Switzerland, where Woods has been continuing rehabilitation.
